Webb City’s Steever, Johnson claim four firsts

WEBB CITY — Webb City’s swim team beat Springfield Hillcrest 108–59, downed Carthage 106–62 and lost to Nixa 97–83 in duals action on Tuesday.
The Lady Cardinals received firsts in all three duals from Ashley Johnson in the 200 freestyle (2:09.47) and 500 freestyle (5:31.22), Brittany Steever in the 50 freestyle (26.69) and 100 butterfly (1:11.12), Erica Logal in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.89) and Steever, Johnson, Olivia Weaver and Logal in the 400 relay (4:17.82) and 200 medley relay (2:09.28).
Nixa’s Anna Brink was first in the 200 individual medley (2:23.93) and 100 freestyle (57.53), as was Marisa Frazier in the 100 backstroke (1:09.42), Aubrie Ledford in the 1-meter diving (144.45 points) and Brink, Ledford, Frankie Leffert and Rachel Savage in the 200 relay (1:58.05).

Wolf, Irish take third at Spokane Tournament (Boys basketball roundup)

SPOKANE — Sophomore Jack Wolf collected 21 points and nine rebounds to lead Springfield Catholic past Cassville 49–44 in the third-place game at the Spokane Tournament on Saturday.
The Irish (10−5) hit 13-of-16 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter.
Elsewhere on Saturday:
— At the Webb City Classic, Branson beat Lincoln Prep 74–57.
The Pirates, ranked No. 5 in Class 5, improved to 17–2.

Neosho wins COC Large Schools Division title (Wrestling)

NIXA — Neosho had eight individual champions while rolling to the team championship at the Central Ozark Conference Large Schools Division Tournament on Saturday.
The Wildcats’ Blake Stauffer, ranked No. 1 in Class 3 at 171 pounds, improved to 43–0.

Lady Cards have two 3-time winners (Swimming)

WEBB CITY — Webb City’s Erica Logal and Ashley Johnson claimed three firsts while helping the Lady Cardinals capture third place at the Central Ozark Conference Swim Meet on Friday.
Logal won the 100 breaststroke (1:13.31) and 200 freestyle (2:20.03) and teamed with Johnson, Caitlin Isaac and Brittany Steever to win the 200 medley relay (2:03.45). Johnson won the 200 individual medley (2:24.52) and 500 freestyle (5:36.87). Her margin of victory in the 500 freestyle was 51 seconds.
Nixa, which won the team title, received firsts from Anna Brinck in the 100 freestyle (56.12) and its 200 freestyle relay (1:50.38). Brinck beat Steever by a tenth of a second.
Runner-up Ozark saw Ashley Short take first in the 100 butterfly (1:06.73) and 100 backstroke (1:11.26) and its 400 freestyle relay claim gold (4:21.30).
Marshfield’s Jessica Stepp was the 1-meter diving champ (334.95 points).
Johnson set two meet records, while Logal, Brinck and Nixa’s 200 freestyle relay also established new meet marks.

COC to be represented at state by 17 district champs

The Central Ozark Large Schools Division is sending 56 state-qualifiers to the Class 3 State Wrestling Tournament this week in Columbia and the Small Schools Division will have 19 state-qualifiers at the Class 2 State Wrestling Tournament.
The COC Large Schools Division and Small Schools Division had a combined 17 district champions crowned this past weekend. Ozark, Willard and Bolivar all had three first-place finishers.
Ozark’s Chass 3 District 3 champs include 130-pound sophomore Colton Howell (44−1), 112-pound sophomore Dmitry Loftis (38−6) and 145-pound junior Trenton Patterson (34−8). The Tigers have a state-qualifier at all 14 weight classes.
Willard’s Class 3 District 3 champs are 152-pound senior Taylor Ball (27−3), 215-pound senior Joel Wyman (40−1) and 285-pound sophomore Christian Adams (30−9). The Tigers have five state-qualifiers.
Bolivar’s Class 2 District 3 champs are 119-pound senior Eric Hughes (38−1), 160-pound senior Joshua Moffett (42−6) and 171-pound senior Kyle Walker (32−10). The Liberators have five state-qualifiers.
Carthage has a pair of Class 3 District 4 champs, 112-pound junior Nate Kelly (35−7) and 119-pound freshman Tyler Feagans (39−1). The Tigers have four state-qualifiers.
Reeds Spring has two Class 2 District 3 champs, 135-pound sophomore Steven Morey (40−0) and 285-pound senior Kale Crosby (38−1). The Wolves have seven state-qualifiers.
Neosho has one Class 3 District 4 champ, 171-pound junior Blake Stauffer (48−1). The Wildcats have 13 state-qualifiers.
Rogersville has one Class 2 District 3 champ, 130-pound senior Sam Zimmer (44−2). He is a two-time state champion. The Wildcats have four state-qualifiers.

Lady Cardinals’ Jaeger COC Large Schools Division Player of the Year

Webb City junior Kaitlin Jaeger has been named the Central Ozark Conference Large Schools Division Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches.
Jaeger is joined on the All-COC First-Team by teammates Hailey Roderique and Kyndal Clark, along with Nixa’s Bethany Funderburke and Emily Walker.
The Second-Team is made up of Willard’s Sammie Gathercole, Nixa’s Randa Raper, Republic’s Kayce Duvall, Ozark’s Melanie Williams and Branson’s Kristina Dodd.
Honorable mention recognition goes to Branson’s Cailynn Hayter, Webb City’s Scharenda Campbell, Carthage’s Kaylee Morgan and Ozark’s Hannah Gomez.

Neosho girls take Carthage team title

CARTHAGE — Neosho won the girls team title by 82 points at the Carthage Invitational on Tuesday.
Carthage’s boys won the 4 x 800 relay (8:30), its girls won the 4 x 100 relay (52.5), Stefan Stokes won the 110 hurdles (16.4), Evans Adams won the 400 (51.24) and Billy Mendell won the 3,200 (10:19).
Neosho’s girls took the 4x 400 relay (4:16), 4 x 800 relay (10:26), while Morgan Rathamn won the 100 (12.72), 200 (26.65) and 400 (1:02.43), Jessica Jackson won the 800 (2:20.99) and 1,600 (5:16), Courtney Wood won the 3,200 (11:46), Jayde Thomas won the 300 hurdles (49.56), Chet Hall won the 300 hurdles (43.68), Marcus Middleton won the shot put (48−8) and Emily Paulis won the triple jump (34−2.5).
Firsts for Webb City included its boys 4 x 100 relay (44.93), girls 4 x 200 relay (1:51.75), boys 4 x 200 relay (1:33.21), Katie Box in the 100 hurdles (15.8), Slade Byford in the triple jump (40−7.5) and Boo Rodgers in the high jump (6−2).
