Nixa sec­ond at con­fer­ence tour­ney (Ten­nis roundup)

  BRAN­SON — Nixa fin­ished as runner-up at the Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Large Schools Divi­sion Ten­nis Tour­na­ment on Wednes­day. The Car­di­nals were one-half point behind first-place Webb City.
  The Eagles’ Devin McDow­ell was the No. 2 sin­gles champ. Josh Dou­blin and Con­nor Bur­ton were sec­ond at No. 5 and No. 6 sin­gles. Char­lie Fen­wick and Brad Barn­hardt, along with Dou­blin and Bur­ton, were sec­ond at No. 2 and No. 3 dou­bles.
Lib­er­a­tors beat Bran­son
  Boli­var downed Bran­son 6–3 on Thurs­day to improve its dual record to 12–3.
  Alex Tal­ley was a win­ner in sin­gles and dou­bles play.
Neosho blanks Mon­ett
  Neosho shut out Mon­ett 9–0 to up its dual record to 8–5.
  The Wild­cats’ Matt Gar­rity was an 8–0 No. 2 sin­gles win­ner, as was Gar­rity and Bo Mahr at No. 1 dou­bles and Joey Cum­ming and Evan Clark at No. 2 doubles.

Webb City’s Steever, John­son claim four firsts

  WEBB CITY — Webb City’s swim team beat Spring­field Hill­crest 108–59, downed Carthage 106–62 and lost to Nixa 97–83 in duals action on Tues­day.
  The Lady Car­di­nals received firsts in all three duals from Ash­ley John­son in the 200 freestyle (2:09.47) and 500 freestyle (5:31.22), Brit­tany Steever in the 50 freestyle (26.69) and 100 but­ter­fly (1:11.12), Erica Logal in the 100 breast­stroke (1:16.89) and Steever, John­son, Olivia Weaver and Logal in the 400 relay (4:17.82) and 200 med­ley relay (2:09.28).
  Nixa’s Anna Brink was first in the 200 indi­vid­ual med­ley (2:23.93) and 100 freestyle (57.53), as was Marisa Fra­zier in the 100 back­stroke (1:09.42), Aubrie Led­ford in the 1-meter div­ing (144.45 points) and Brink, Led­ford, Frankie Lef­fert and Rachel Sav­age in the 200 relay (1:58.05).

  MARSH­FIELD — Marsh­field ral­lied from a 10-point deficit to hit the game-winning shot with five sec­onds to play and beat Pleas­ant Hope 49–48 on Mon­day.
  Marsh­field, which is 8–5 and was sec­ond at the Pink & White Tour­na­ment, trav­els to Reeds Spring in the Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Small Schools Divi­sion opener for both teams on Tues­day.
  In other games on Mon­day:
  — Hol­lis­ter received 21 points from Jae­Lynn Elli­son in its 66–57 tri­umph over Forsyth.
  The Lady Tigers received 16 points apiece from Cas­san­dra Kim­brough and Lainie Bishop.
  Hol­lis­ter is 7–4 and begins con­fer­ence play on Thurs­day at Spring­field Catholic.
  — Webb City opened con­fer­ence play by down­ing Neosho 65–21.

  Webb City’s girls bas­ket­ball team is atop this week’s Class 4 poll in this Mis­souri Sports­writ­ers and Sports­cast­ers Association’s state rank­ings.
  The Lady Car­di­nals are 15–1. 
  In Class 5, Nixa is 13–2 and ranked No. 2. 
  The Lady Car­di­nals and Lady Eagles will meet Feb. 12 at Nixa.
  The Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Large Schools Divi­sion is rep­re­sented in the boys poll by Bran­son and Nixa. The Pirates are 15–1 and ranked No. 5 in Class 5 and the Eagles are 16–1 record and ranked No. 8 in Class 5.

  NEOSHO — Neosho downed non-conference foe Mt. Ver­non 53–45 on Fri­day.
  The Wild­cats were led by Corey Crandall’s 16 points, Michael Lowe’s 15 and Alex Wise’s 10.
  Else­where on Fri­day:
  — Spring­field Catholic fell to host Spokane 59–41 in a semi­fi­nal at the Spokane Tour­na­ment.
  Jack Wolf had 10 points for the Irish.
  — Repub­lic edged Reeds Spring 56–53.
  Josh Morrow’s 21 points and Kevin Stander’s 20 paced the Tigers. The Wolves received 15 points from Kyle Fleck and 10 apiece from Mar­cus John­son and Chris Jones.
  — Bran­son downed Webb City 70–55 in second-round action at the Webb City Clas­sic.
  — Nixa downed Rogersville 64–39 behind Ben Fisher’s 19 points.

  JOPLIIN — Webb City’s Brax­ton Baker and Bart Starkey and Neosho’s Matt Bridges and Addi­son Rain­wa­ter will next be team­mates.
  They all signed let­ters of intent ear­lier this week to con­tinue their grid­iron careers at Mis­souri South­ern State. Baker is a run­ning back, Bridges a cen­ter and Rain­wa­ter and Starkey are line­back­ers.
  Also, Webb City defen­sive back Boo Rodgers signed with South­ern Illinois-Carbondale.

 Pirates gain 20th vic­tory

  BRAN­SON — A 25-point third quar­ter trig­gered Branson’s 74–47 win over Webb City in Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Large Schools Divi­sion play on Sat­ur­day.
  The Pirates had scored only 30 points in the first half and held just a six-point lead at inter­mis­sion.
  Avery Ding­man topped the win­ners with 18 points, while Sam Pugh net­ted 16, Tee Helsel fired in 15 and Dana Thomas con­tributed 14 points and 12 rebounds.
  Webb City received 15 points from Phillip Donna and a dozen from Austin Daniels.
  Bran­son improved to 20–2 over­all and 2–1 in con­fer­ence play. Webb City fell to 10–12 and 0–4.

Lady Cards have two 3-time win­ners (Swim­ming)

  WEBB CITY — Webb City’s Erica Logal and Ash­ley John­son claimed three firsts while help­ing the Lady Car­di­nals cap­ture third place at the Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Swim Meet on Fri­day.
  Logal won the 100 breast­stroke (1:13.31) and 200 freestyle (2:20.03) and teamed with John­son, Caitlin Isaac and Brit­tany Steever to win the 200 med­ley relay (2:03.45). John­son won the 200 indi­vid­ual med­ley (2:24.52) and 500 freestyle (5:36.87). Her mar­gin of vic­tory in the 500 freestyle was 51 sec­onds.
  Nixa, which won the team title, received firsts from Anna Brinck in the 100 freestyle (56.12) and its 200 freestyle relay (1:50.38). Brinck beat Steever by a tenth of a sec­ond.
  Runner-up Ozark saw Ash­ley Short take first in the 100 but­ter­fly (1:06.73) and 100 back­stroke (1:11.26) and its 400 freestyle relay claim gold (4:21.30).
  Marshfield’s Jes­sica Stepp was the 1-meter div­ing champ (334.95 points).
  John­son set two meet records, while Logal, Brinck and Nixa’s 200 freestyle relay also estab­lished new meet marks.

COC to be rep­re­sented at state by 17 dis­trict champs

  The Cen­tral Ozark Large Schools Divi­sion is send­ing 56 state-qualifiers to the Class 3 State Wrestling Tour­na­ment this week in Colum­bia and the Small Schools Divi­sion will have 19 state-qualifiers at the Class 2 State Wrestling Tour­na­ment.
  The COC Large Schools Divi­sion and Small Schools Divi­sion had a com­bined 17 dis­trict cham­pi­ons crowned this past week­end. Ozark, Willard and Boli­var all had three first-place fin­ish­ers.
  Ozark’s Chass 3 Dis­trict 3 champs include 130-pound sopho­more Colton How­ell (44−1), 112-pound sopho­more Dmitry Loftis (38−6) and 145-pound junior Tren­ton Pat­ter­son (34−8). The Tigers have a state-qualifier at all 14 weight classes.
  Willard’s Class 3 Dis­trict 3 champs are 152-pound senior Tay­lor Ball (27−3), 215-pound senior Joel Wyman (40−1) and 285-pound sopho­more Chris­t­ian Adams (30−9). The Tigers have five state-qualifiers.
  Bolivar’s Class 2 Dis­trict 3 champs are 119-pound senior Eric Hughes (38−1), 160-pound senior Joshua Mof­fett (42−6) and 171-pound senior Kyle Walker (32−10). The Lib­er­a­tors have five state-qualifiers.
  Carthage has a pair of Class 3 Dis­trict 4 champs, 112-pound junior Nate Kelly (35−7) and 119-pound fresh­man Tyler Fea­gans (39−1). The Tigers have four state-qualifiers.
  Reeds Spring has two Class 2 Dis­trict 3 champs, 135-pound sopho­more Steven Morey (40−0) and 285-pound senior Kale Crosby (38−1). The Wolves have seven state-qualifiers.
  Neosho has one Class 3 Dis­trict 4 champ, 171-pound junior Blake Stauf­fer (48−1). The Wild­cats have 13 state-qualifiers.
  Rogersville has one Class 2 Dis­trict 3 champ, 130-pound senior Sam Zim­mer (44−2). He is a two-time state cham­pion. The Wild­cats have four state-qualifiers.

Lady Car­di­nals’ Jaeger COC Large Schools Divi­sion Player of the Year

  Webb City junior Kaitlin Jaeger has been named the Cen­tral Ozark Con­fer­ence Large Schools Divi­sion Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches.
  Jaeger is joined on the All-COC First-Team by team­mates Hai­ley Roderique and Kyn­dal Clark, along with Nixa’s Bethany Fun­der­burke and Emily Walker.
  The Second-Team is made up of Willard’s Sam­mie Gath­er­cole, Nixa’s Randa Raper, Republic’s Kayce Duvall, Ozark’s Melanie Williams and Branson’s Kristina Dodd.
  Hon­or­able men­tion recog­ni­tion goes to Branson’s Cai­lynn Hayter, Webb City’s Scharenda Camp­bell, Carthage’s Kaylee Mor­gan and Ozark’s Han­nah Gomez.

Neosho girls take Carthage team title

  CARTHAGE — Neosho won the girls team title by 82 points at the Carthage Invi­ta­tional on Tues­day.
  Carthage’s boys won the 4 x 800 relay (8:30), its girls won the 4 x 100 relay (52.5), Ste­fan Stokes won the 110 hur­dles (16.4), Evans Adams won the 400 (51.24) and Billy Mendell won the 3,200 (10:19).
  Neosho’s girls took the 4x 400 relay (4:16), 4 x 800 relay (10:26), while Mor­gan Rathamn won the 100 (12.72), 200 (26.65) and 400 (1:02.43), Jes­sica Jack­son won the 800 (2:20.99) and 1,600 (5:16), Court­ney Wood won the 3,200 (11:46), Jayde Thomas won the 300 hur­dles (49.56), Chet Hall won the 300 hur­dles (43.68), Mar­cus Mid­dle­ton won the shot put (48−8) and Emily Paulis won the triple jump (34−2.5).

  The Car­di­nals took three matches by two games and swept the dou­bles com­pe­ti­tion.
  Neosho fell to 7–4 over­all and 4–3 in con­fer­ence play.
